Introducing LightHarvester

Durable Technologies' LightHarvester Logo

Daylight

It's clean, free, and renewable. So why do commercial buildings use artificial light when they can be using daylight?

Daylight Harvesting

Uses natural daylight to supplement artificial lighting, dramatically reducing energy costs and carbon footprint.

LightHarvester

Introducing LightHarvester from Durable Technologies, the latest generation of Intelligent Marshalling Boxes that combine multiple daylight harvesting and absence/presence detection technologies to aggressively reduce commissioning time and costs, your carbon footprint, and your energy consumption.

Durable Technologies Shortlisted for The 2012 Hartlepool Business Awards

In todays post we discovered that we have been shortlisted for the 2012 Hartlepool Business Awards in two catagories. One being Investment In Training the other being Innovation In Technology.

Previously we have won Most Promising New Business in 2009 and followed that with Exporter of the Year in 2011. The big question is can we make the double this year? Only time will tell and it will be anounced at the awards ceromony on 17th May 2012.

Reduce Fluorescent Lighting Costs Easily

When I look at the majority of offices it seems that when there is dimming lights fitted with sensors to regulate the light output in relationship to natural light these are normally only in the window line. The reality is that natural light will penetrate much deeper into the office allowing for much greater savings. On average, if the window line is able to dim by say 70% then it is not unreasonable for the next row to be reduced by 50% and the next by 30%. Not only will this double the energy reduction but it will also extend the life of both the lamp and the ballast.
The other area when dimming to save energy should be utilised is in circulation areas, WC's etc. These areas are encouraged to use presence detectors to save energy but if they are used in conjunction with 2 stage timers (DLC200) then when movement is detected the lights are set to 100% but when there is no movement the lights are dimmed to say 20% immediately saving approximately 75% but without the area being left in darkness until much later. This type of control in these areas offer much greater energy savings than is realised and provides a return on investment in a short space of time

The Green Deal Inititiave

As the world tries to be a greener place a number of initiatives have been launched by numerous governments around the world. Here in the UK a website has been created called 'the Green Deal Initiative'. Here there is a wealth of information by various experts on how energy can be saved and how it can be financed. Both residential and commercial. It is independent of any manufacturer and is there only to spread knowledge on energy saving.
I am proud to have been selected and invited as an authority on commercial lighting controls to provide blogs entries  for them and will on a regular basis write contributions, the first can be found here.
